1959 Hamilton 992B Railway Special Marriage Conversion Watch 21 J 6 Pos. + Temp.

A fascinating 1959 Hamilton 992B Railway Special, originally manufactured as a high-grade American railroad pocket watch and subsequently converted into a large wristwatch — commonly known as a marriage watch.

At the heart of this watch is the celebrated Hamilton 992B, a 21-jewel, hand-wound movement produced to meet the demanding standards associated with American railroad timekeeping. The movement was adjusted to six positions and temperature, reflecting the high level of precision expected from railroad-grade watches.

Rather than remaining in its original pocket-watch configuration, the movement has been professionally housed in a wristwatch-style case, creating an impressive statement piece that combines genuine vintage American horology with the practicality of a modern wristwatch format.

The large white dial retains the distinctive Hamilton Railway Special signature and bold black Arabic numerals, providing excellent legibility. A traditional subsidiary seconds dial is positioned at 9 o'clock in the converted orientation, while the ornate crown and substantial polished case complement the watch's historical character.

The dial displays attractive age-related crazing and patina, providing clear evidence of its vintage origins rather than attempting to disguise its history.

The Hamilton 992B is one of the best-known American railroad watch movements, and this conversion offers an unusual opportunity to wear such a substantial piece of American watchmaking history on the wrist rather than keeping it as a pocket watch.

Condition: Good vintage condition. The original vintage components show age-related wear and patina, including visible crazing to the dial. The conversion case and strap present well. Please refer carefully to the photographs, which formed part of the original description.

Please note: This is a marriage/conversion watch and was not originally manufactured by Hamilton as a wristwatch in this configuration. The vintage Hamilton pocket-watch movement and dial have subsequently been fitted into a wristwatch case. As with any vintage mechanical watch, exact timekeeping can vary with position, temperature, state of wind and use. Water resistance should not be assumed.
